My Momma

My Mom

I do not write enough about my mother. She is such a huge part of who I am today. To think of her life, her sacrifices, her love, it is overwhelming.

Growing up my mom lived in a very unhealthy atmosphere. Her mother was co-dependant and her step father an alcoholic. Living in a large family I am sure she often got overlooked and pushed aside. Her brother and sisters often favored above her. I cannot forget the amazing female role models in her life: my great grandmother and great-great aunt (Sister). Women with their own issues, but full of Christ's love for my mother.

I think of my mom meeting my dad at such a young age. Having to see him go off to war not long after. Then marrying and moving away from her family to be with her husband in strange places. Her first child. Her second that never drew breath. Her third child, a painful pregnancy and recovery. Her fourth, taken away after only 5 weeks of being her mother. The countless children she has touched and changed lives of as a volunteer, PTA president, cook, and the list goes on and on.

I remember something happening to upset me at school. As the years pass, the memory of the act against me has faded, but I clearly remember my mother coming through the door, sitting next to me, and waiting until I could share. I remember a mother who was always there. Who stopped watching "As the World Turns" when she realized she was putting TV before her children.

I remember a mom who sat and cried with me in a hotel room in Glendale. Who never yells at me when I accidentally call in the middle of the night. Who helps me to move, even when it takes me thousands of miles away from her. Who loves and supports me no matter what.

A mom who deeply and truly loves my dad. Who deeply and truly loves her God.

Proverbs 31: 28-31 says:

Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

I will gladly stand at the city gate and call my mother blessed! She is a Proverbs 31 woman. She is an example of God's love on this Earth. I see Jesus not only in my mother, but through my mother. I LOVE YOU, MOM!!! I only hope that one day I can be as good a mother as you.
