Nugget of Truth: The Devil Wears Prada

I don't think this is a spoiler. There is a moment in the movie where Andy's character is confronted about her over working. She is told something like this. "You know that cell phone caller that you always answer? That is who you are in a relationship with." That is our nugget of truth.

Time is the one thing we all are limited by. It is the biggest gift that we can give. In this case Andrea is giving time to the caller. She always answers that phone when this person calls. She is even taking from time devoted to others and giving to the caller instead. This got me thinking. Who do we give our time? Two stories:

A friend of mine Danielle made a comment not too long ago to Janine that she felt important b/c Janine answered her call even when she was in a meeting. Then a few days later while at the worship conference Lincoln Brewster was speaking and his phone rang. He looked down and saw who it was and did not answer the phone. He apologized. He then went on to say that if it was his wife he would have had to answer it. His reasoning was that no matter how important he thought the topic he was teaching, his wife was so much more important. He said that it was more important that his wife knew she could get him at all times when he is away.

I think we can give others time and it is so special. So next time that phone rings and you really don't want to answer... think of the love you could be giving just by picking it up. But... let's keep the proirities straight and not do it at the expense of others!

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." Proverbs 17:17

Found your blog from Los' blog.

Well said. A friend and I just had a conversation about this topic as well. I think it's important not to be a slave to your phone; thinking that you have to take every call.

I know your post isn't so much about answering your phone as much as is it about the time that we give and spent with people.

Thanks for the thought.
