Nugget of Truth: Aeon Flux
An interesting movie that tried to be deeper than it really was. One of the themes and struggles in the movie (THIS IS A SPOILER) is cloning and "living forever". It turns out that due to an event in the past, women can no longer get pregnant. The only way to continue life is to clone. One charater uses all this power and knowledge to "cure" humans to stop the cloning process. His brother is sabatoging the project killing off all of those who have sucessfully become pregnant. So when the problem comes that the one who is trying to cure might die, his beliefs come into question.
So what's the nugget of truth? A line when Aeon says to this character, "We're meant to die. That's what makes anything about us matter."
I believe that there are two possible deaths: Death to self (spiritually) and death of self (physically). The second is always ture. Death is awaiting us all, our self will die.
But, when it comes to dying to self, we must choose. By dying to self, we admit that there is One much bigger than us. We give up our own way and become part of His plan, our life is no longer our own. I believe only then can we truly matter. If it is all about you, it can only matter to you, and it last your legacy. If it is about God, it matters to all since He is the author of all, and it last for eternity.
Since we matter to God, we matter. There is a battle plan, and we must play our parts. Death is a part of that plan, but I joy in knowing that death is only the beginning of eternity. Life is preparation for the next. As such, I want to matter in this life, but the only way for me to truly matter is to take up my cross and follow the only One that will matter for all time.
Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. Daniel 4:34b
