Playing the Cello

The last few days I have been thinking about what a unique joy and thrill it is to play the cello. So often I take this for granted. It has been a part of my life for so long that I forget how special it is to me. I have had so many opportunities open to me through playing.

I love being a part of the Saddleback Orchestra. Sure we play in front of 3,000+ people every time we play, but it is so much more than that. We may be infront of an audience, but we play for an audience of one, God. Playing cello for God is so much more freeing, fun, and rewarding than any other purpose to play.

I also love cutting loose and being a part of a band. Making up parts on the fly and just letting The Spirit lead. I have been able to play on Christian demos and albums. I have opened musicians up to what strings can add to their arrangements. More and more I see artists using cello and it makes my heart jump for joy.

I do not even remember why I chose to play cello in 4th grade, but God knew that I would. Through discouragement (being told I would never be good enough), pain (tendonitis and now rhuemtoid arthrisis), through egos, and so much more... It is a gift to play. Thank You, Lord, for this special gift. Thank You for this pathway to You that I am given that so few know. I love praying to and worshipping You through the cello.

If you want to hear a little bit I have a few tunes on my myspace. www.myspace.com/tmbcello
